The Journal of Ethiopian Society of Chemical Engineers (ESChE) is the official scholarly publication of the Ethiopian Society of Chemical Engineers. The journal is managed by an experienced Editorial Team dedicated to maintaining high standards of scholarly publishing, ensuring a rigorous peer-review process, promoting publication ethics, and advancing excellence in chemical engineering research.
The Editorial Team oversees manuscript evaluation, editorial decision-making, reviewer selection, editorial policies, and the continuous development of the journal in accordance with internationally recognized publishing standards.

Dr Girma Gonfa Research areas: Separation processes; environmental engineering; biomass valorization; adsorption and water treatment; biomaterials; nanomaterials; process modelling and simulation. Biography: Girma Gonfa Hunde is an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering and Head of the Biotechnology and Bioprocess Center of Excellence at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, Ethiopia. He served as a postdoctoral fellow at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia, before joining Addis Ababa Science and Technology University. He received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia, an MSc in Chemical Engineering with a major in Environmental Engineering from Addis Ababa University, and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from Bahir Dar University. His research focuses on separation processes, ionic liquids, biomass valorization, low-cost adsorbents for water purification, biomaterials, metal-organic frameworks, and molecular and multiscale modelling. He has extensive experience in academic leadership, research management, postgraduate supervision, and scientific publishing.

Dr. Mulu Alemayehu Abate (PhD) Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering and Faculty member of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Ethiopian Institute of Technology Mekelle (EIT-M), Mekelle University, Ethiopia. Research area: Renewable Energy Technology, Nanomaterials for Energy application, Computational Materials, Quantum dot Solar Cells, Perovskite solar cells. Biography: - Mulu Alemayehu Abate is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the Ethiopian Institute of Technology Mekelle (EIT-M), Mekelle University, Ethiopia. He is an Associate Fellow of the Society for Energy, Materials & Sustainability (SEMS), a distinction conferred on April 2, 2026 (Certificate No. SEMS-26A0409). Dr. Mulu earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (Nano Chemistry) from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), Taipei, Taiwan. He also holds an M.Sc. in Inorganic Chemistry from Arba Minch University and a B.Sc. in Applied Chemistry from Mada Walabu University. His research interests include renewable energy technologies, nanomaterials for energy applications, computational materials science, quantum dot solar cells, and perovskite solar cells. His work focuses on advancing sustainable energy technologies through innovative materials design and computational modeling.In addition to his research, Dr. Mulu has extensive experience in academic leadership, research management, postgraduate supervision, and scientific publishing, contributing to the advancement of engineering education and research at both national and international levels.

Dr. Yalew Woldeamanuel Sitotaw Research areas: Process Intensification; Ultrasound-Assisted Processing; Mechanochemical Processing; Green Solvents; Biomass Valorization; Biofuels and Biorefineries; Biomaterials; Polymer and Composites; Process Systems Engineering; Sustainable Product Development. Biography: Yalew Woldeamanuel Sitotaw is an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU), Ethiopia. Before joining Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, he served as a Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia. He earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from KU Leuven (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven), Belgium, and also holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering (Process Engineering and Design) from Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia. He received an MSc in Engineering Rheology through the joint Erasmus Mundus program from KU Leuven, Belgium, and the University of Minho, Portugal, an MSc in Chemical Engineering with a specialization in Process Engineering from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, and a BSc in Chemical Engineering from Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia. His research focuses on the application of process-intensification approaches, including ultrasonication, mechanochemical processes and green solvents for the synthesis of biofuels, biomaterials, and value-added chemicals from agro-industrial wastes; polymer and composite processing and characterization for diverse applications; process design and optimization; process intensification and integration; product design and development. In addition to his research, he has extensive experience in academic leadership, research management, postgraduate supervision, curriculum development, and scientific publishing.

Dr. Redae Nuguse Berhe (PhD) Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering and Faculty member of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Ethiopian Institute of Technology Mekelle (EIT-M), Mekelle University, Ethiopia. Research areas: Advanced water and wastewater treatment, water reuse, and persistent contaminant removal, electro-Fenton oxidation, electrode ionization, and bio-electrochemical systems, biological processes, biofilm reactors, nutrient removal and recovery Biography: Redae Nuguse Berhe is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Mekelle University, Ethiopia. His research focuses on advanced wastewater treatment and resource recovery, with particular emphasis on environmental electrochemistry, electro-Fenton oxidation, biofilm-based treatment, nutrient removal and recovery, electrodeionization, and the treatment of persistent contaminants. He has completed postdoctoral research appointments at Western University in Canada and the University of Seoul in South Korea, where he contributed to the development of sustainable and resource-oriented water-treatment technologies. He received his PhD in Environmental Engineering from Addis Ababa University and completed his graduate studies in Biochemical Engineering at Addis Ababa University and undergraduate studies in Biological and Chemical Engineering at Mekelle University. His scholarly work addresses bio-electrochemical systems, electrocatalytic oxidation, nitrogen recovery, wastewater nutrient management, and water reuse. He also has experience in lecturing, research supervision, scientific publishing, and interdisciplinary environmental research. |
